I’m getting so close to the end of my second draft I can’t help but get excited. Especially when I see my characters going through an emotionally exhausting moment. Here’s a snippet from Drew’s point of view. This is about two thirds through the novel.
A whole new world is jammed inside the 695 beltway. It teeters on the verge of complete destruction. The weight of this falls heavy on my shoulders. Can I be the one to weld the lives of everyone in here?
I tug the wedding ring on my finger and slip it off. There is hope for all of us but no one is the same. The new world is run by people forced to reinvent themselves. I put the ring in the nightstand drawer and close it. Guilt, fear, sadness. A tear runs down my face, I let it trail my neck and soak into my collar.
NaNoWriMo is next month (November) and I am planning to do it for the first time. For those that don’t know this is where writers from around the world compete to write 50,000 words withing one month. The competition is really the goal you set for yourself. If you hit 50,000 words you are declared a winner. I want to finish the first draft of Kiss of Lazarus (working title but this is the one I’m digging right now) so I can focus on a book completely outside of the series. I need time to lay a rough plot down and get a grip on my new characters but I’m pumped for the challenge!

That’s great! Excited here too! I plan to do NaNo for the first time ever but my personal goal is. 20,000 word Novella draft. I’ve been character building and plotting like you. Also nervous about it. But I’m gonna try to have fun with it. Can’t wait to see how it goes with my story idea.

It’s always so exciting to me when someone participates in their first NaNo! Good luck prepping for it this month!

I participated in my first NaNo two years ago. Equally exhilarating and exhausting. It’s draining of every knowable emotion and creative resource. I stumbled through it with a 50k manuscript a day or two early. Best wishes for a successful and rewarding experience.
