A busy schedule will not derail my goals.

A busy schedule will not derail my goals.

The month of November was a hard one. I signed up for NaNoWriMo and won! This means I wrote at least 50k words in one month. During this time my husband worked his tail off finishing a project at work. He was exhausted: puffy eyes, paler skin, getting up at 4am, a head cold that wouldn’t clear. I felt for him but I also had a goal of my own. Dinner was on the table, laundry done, my day job completed, and I wrote every night for at least an hour or two. I went to bed LATE, I was tired almost every day. I ate too many snacks, relied on coffee more than I should, and cried sometimes. In addition, our three kids make things extra tricky. I ignored them a little, sorry guys, I’ll make up for it in December.

Last year I didn’t participate in NaNoWriMo because I was scared I’d fail. I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge and then I push hard to finish. This month was no different even with the obstacles (aka life). Yes, it was difficult.  This is what devotion looks like sometimes. Exhaustion, testing the limits, squeezing it in even when you thought there was no time to be had.

If you really want something you will find time for it.

  1. Congrats on the 50k words! That’s a really big accomplishment on top of everything you have going on. I didn’t participate, but I did finish another round of edits on my sequel, and pushed a little further into the first draft of the third book in the series.

    1. That’s great! I got your book during the Thanksgiving/Black Friday craze. Looking forward to reading it. Maybe one day I’ll finally publish my own zombie novel. I have a love for it though it needs work and some attention.

      1. Thanks, I hope you enjoy it 😀 Could I also trouble you for a review when you finish it? Reviews really help with visibility on Goodreads and Amazon.

You’ll get there! It took me six agonizing years to finally publish mine.

  2. Man, I cannot tell you how much I HATE deadlines. I always think of something SO CLEVER just seconds after they’ve passed. By the time I’ve realised that it is not at all clever, but actually particularly dumb, another deadline has passed me by and voices are being raised. To set your own deadline is brave – particularly when you still have a life to lead. To achieve is brilliant. Well done. Now, after me: wine, chocolate, sleep, repeat…

    1. I hear you on the wine though the sleep came less last month I wish to say it was more now. It is not. I just keep finding things to keep me up. Seven hours, that’s not so bad right? Think of all the things we miss when we get a full ten.
