Friendship Grip

Friendship ain’t just claspin' hands and saying howdy-doo.
Friendship grips a fellers heart and warms him through and through.
– unknown

Hung on the wall of my childhood bathroom was this little frame and a picture of me and my sisters. We were all under the age of six, wearing nothing more than homemade shorts made by my mom. Our hair cropped short, probably because I played “barber” more than once as a child, lopping off the locks of my poor unfortunate sisters. Our smiles beam at the camera, one of my parents on the other side grinning back. Sometimes we are born lucky and join a family that loves us and we love them back with the rarest kind of unconditional love. Love at first site, love at first step, love at first word. My family.

Then there are those that join us along our journey and become as close as family to us. Seeing us at our ugliest with no shame or judgement. Helping us up when we fall and cheering us on through all our victories. Friends accept our oddities and vices, and we do the same for them.

Today I’m sending some love out to the universe to friends near and far, friends I’ve known for years and the possibility of friends I haven’t met yet.

May our friends continue to disrupt our lives in any way that suits.
