Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney. I picked this up at the library, it’s been on my list to read for a long time.
The story is about a girl who finds herself in a coma. She can hear people but is unable to move or communicate. The story bounces back and forth between three timeframes. The first being the current time which is her in the coma, the second is a few days leading up to the coma. This is where the mystery is, we want to learn how she got here, it wasn’t her fault, so who did it what to her? The third point of view is through diary entries from the time of her early childhood.
I enjoyed this book, it had some neat turns and twists though it got a little out of my grasp toward the end when a big reveal happens. Maybe I should have seen it coming but I didn’t. Sometimes I like this (I see dead people, totally got me) but other times it feels too far fetched or as if it doesn’t belong. For me, it fell a bit flat. Especially, during the last few pages, we get to see the main character’s true colors come through.
Not my favorite book of 2019 but certainly still a good read. The writing itself is well done and easy to follow, good visuals, well-formed storyline.
