When I was a little girl my mom let me watch the 1978 animated movie, Watership Down. I cried through the entire movie and hid under the blanket as I watched rabbits rip each other apart. It was traumatizing and it stayed with me longer than most movies I can recall as a child. I’ve heard it’s a good book. Well, no thank you! I have some serious healing to do from watching the movie as a child. Thanks, mom. I own this book, and the pages have never been cracked open. I’m truly terrified of the sleepless nights that lie ahead if I were to read it.
Am I the only person who has had a movie affect them this much? I think the Secret Life of NIMH also disturbed me. Such a dark story. I’ve never been able to see rose bushes in the same way. Finally, The Neverending Story haunted me. The black wolf would come after me in my dreams and I couldn’t go back to sleep in fear of seeing him again. It’s hard being a kid, right? If there are books based on either of these movies, you can forget it. I’m not touching them.
